Brooke Balck, who underwent a life-saving heart transplant at UCLA Health at the age of two, has become an advocate for young transplant patients. She recently shared her story at Family Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. This annual event allows young patients to communicate their experiences with lawmakers who are considering bills that could affect pediatric health care. During the event, Brooke and her mother met with representatives and also unexpectedly encountered Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. Brooke's mother expressed pride in her daughter's growth and advocacy, while Brooke felt empowered to speak up for others, anticipating her return to "heart camp" with a newfound sense of accomplishment.
