Recent research by UCLA and the city of Los Angeles has resulted in the development of the urban association index, which aims to assess the status of wildlife species within the city. The study unearthed surprising pockets of biodiversity within Los Angeles, but it remains a significant challenge to increase the overall biodiversity of the city. The findings suggest opportunities for residents of Los Angeles, as well as individuals in other urban areas, to create environments that are conducive not only to species that are adaptable to urban settings but also to those that typically avoid city habitats.
