UCLA students trekked to City Hall on February 16 for the 18th Luskin Day at Los Angeles City Hall, this year presented in partnership with the office of Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky. The annual event offers Luskin School of Public Affairs graduate students an opportunity to meet with local government leaders as well as experts in specific fields to bring some of the university’s resources to bear on questions of significance to the city.
Under the leadership of transportation policy professor Brian Taylor, this year’s cohort of 20 students spent months examining the question, “How should the City of Los Angeles prioritize first/last mile investments?” To help address the issue, the students interviewed political and civic leaders and community representatives. On Luskin Day, the students presented their preliminary findings and received feedback, from which they will fashion a final report intended to help guide policy in this area.
